It's been a while. Recap of previous chapters and more samples for Certificate Module 1 Chapter 7

I've been neglecting my blog and my course work over the last few months, however I now feel ready to get back into studying. So after chatting with Sian I decided to revisit the chapters I had already completed, just to get back into the swing of things.
So I did a few line drawings. I found a few star shapes in the house poppy seed heads, Alium seed heads and star anise. On the sofa was a cross like shape in the middle of an embroidered cushion. Then I quickly did an internet search and found the Kachina temple cross shapes, church carvings and crosses and Mexican cross. I love the work of Gustav Klimt and had a book out from the library so I looked for stars and crosses within his art work. Here's the finished page.

Next I decided to create some black cut out shapes using these line drawings a my starting point.

I now felt ready to create some more samples for Chapter 7. This time using the sewing machine rather than hand stitching.

Sample 1: Church cross and Mexican cross. I like the shape of this one but not the colour combination, I think it would have had more impact if I had used blue as the base fabric rather than the red.I will probably try this again in the next chapter.
Sample 2: using 4 layers. All these fabrics had been dyed and some printed, although once I had cut away the second layer the cross shaped pattern disappeared.
I was really please with the scrim star shape on top of this sample though.

Sample 3: blue printed cotton, orange pre-dyed fabric and bonded scraps and threads.

Sample 4: 4 layers of sheers, dyed and printed fabrics. The sheer looked very pink rather than red. Although  I liked the composition I wasn't so happy with the colours. So I decided to make another sample in the same style.

Sample 5:Similar to sample 4 but with a more careful choice of colours.

Looking forward to Chapter 8.
